WHO AM I NOW?

80th birthday
Knowing who I am now helps me place my current life in relation to the eternal.  I’m wondering what folks mean when they say, “I’m spiritual but not religious.”   That sounds inviting with all the trouble caused by institutional religions, but I don’t see religion and spirituality as mutual exclusive. One is public and the other private. External and internal.   One involves community and the other is private.  All my life I have been what is commonly called “religious.”  My religion would have been empty without the spiritual dimension. On the other hand, the spiritual could not have accomplished a meaningful mission in the world without  a community.  With the time flexibility of retirement, I now enjoy the spirituality of daily quality time Martha sharing life and love. God’s presence has become more real and more appreciated. God is everywhere and that is where my religion and my spirituality must go.
